Red	2018 Cartoixa de Montsalvat Priorat Montclàss Grenache Blend, Grenache more	Options Post a Comment View CheviotCellar's profile Report Issue 3/14/2024 - CheviotCellar Likes this wine: 89 points 65% grenache, 25% carignan, 10% syrah. 8 months in French oak. “In bottle from June 2020”… the label doesnt explain where the wine was for the other 12 months, or maybe this is mislabeled 2019 juice as 2018. Dark color but already thinning around edges. Nose is dark cherries, maple syrup and smoke. Palate has more dark cherries, raisins, loamy soil, woodsmoke and slate. The finish is uneven and skewing primary/juicy, which is turning me off. Otherwise decent character for the money. Classic Priorat components but presented in a rustic way. A wine that you could explain easily to someone unfamiliar with Priorat but not cohesive like a Martinet or Mogador, or regal like a Vall Llach or Erasmus. Do you find this review helpful? Body is vibrant red with orange and brown hues near rim. Nose is potent (in the best possible way) of stewed cherry, orange peel, raisin, garrigue, baked pastry. Enchanting. Palate is also stacked with flavor. More stewed cherries, apricot, perfumed ripe cherries, oak, charcoal/slate. Layers of flavors that go on for minutes between sips. Þykkt bragð og kraftmikil sýra. Hér var Björgvin enn einu sinni að spila með okkur og reyna að láta Priorat vín ganga sem Portúgala (byrja reyndar bæði á P). Tíminn var orðinn naumur og pappírinn var rifinn utan af flöskunni áður en við vorum búnir að átta okkur á blekkingunni. Best Priorat of I've ever tried. Gorgeous honey, Indian spices, cardamon, and gobs of mineral tar. The mouthful SOARS and finishes in a luxurious tar pit laced with complex spices and minerals whose finish lasts a minute. Amazing wine. It's unlike anything I've ever tasted. The nose is more subdued in this wine. Glue and sweet notes on the nose. Resembles the 2005 vintage more than the 2010. Dark and brooding on the palate. Kahlua in the aftertaste.
